Course Description: |
This course addresses the rationale, planning, and implementation of primary health care programs from an international perspective. Emphasis is given to primary care as an integral part of health care systems and an essential component of public health. The organization of the course is modular and follows the WHO primary health care model. The course is offered online or by CD-ROM with e-mail and consists of nine modules one to two weeks in length. The student is expected to:
- Understand the rationale, role, and concept of primary health care in health care delivery systems worldwide;
- Develop the skills of designing and implementing primary health care programs in response to community needs;
- Analyze the impact of primary health care on health status and on health costs for at-risk population groups.
