Course Description: |
Over the past four years, APHA has worked with the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Association of City and County Health Officials, National Association of Local Boards of Health, National Network of Public Health Institutes and Public Health Foundation to create the national Public Health Performance Standards (NPHPS). The NPHPS instruments will help to strengthen state public health systems, local public health systems, and local public health governance. The NPHPS instruments can serve as valuable tools in determining current performance and capacity, identifying areas that need to be improved, strengthening state and local partnerships, and ensuring the presence of a strong system that can respond effectively to everyday public health issues and public health emergencies.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:
- Understand the relationship between essential public services and performance assessment
- Gain a better understanding of the relationships of key partners in a public health system
- Identify ways to access online resources and technical assistance to improve the performance of public health systems
- Understand the importance of adopting the Performance Standards for continual quality improvement of public health practice.
