Course Description: This course will give the clinician the opportunity to learn more about the complex disease of opiate addiction and the most widely used treatment in our nation currently - methadone maintenance. The medical aspects of pharmacotherapy with methadone, methadone maintenance treatment practices, facts and myths about methadone treatment, and laws/regulations of methadone treatment will be covered. Along with special topics in this specified treatment including needle exchange programs, HIV/AIDS, communicable diseases, and criminal justice involvement.
