CDC Responds: Update on the State and Local Preparedness Grant Program

Course Description: Join us for this live satellite broadcast, as we discuss recent developments in grants management, administration, and operational structure pertaining to Cooperative Agreement 99051 and FY02 Supplemental Funding, current events surrounding relationship of CDC with the new Department of Homeland Security, and specific Focus Area updates and observations of submitted workplans that identify strengths, challenges, exceptional programs in action, and recommended strategies for workplan development and implementation. Details on continued provision of technical assistance, availability of direct assistance, site visits, electronic reporting systems, and the program's evaluation framework will be described. This broadcast will be segmented by Focus Area, so participants can select any portion(s) of the broadcast they are specifically interested in. Each Focus Area will feature a question and answer session in which the participants can interact with the course presenters. By the end of the program, our panelists will have provided a description of CDC's organizational and operational structure to meet the needs of the grant recipients. Focus Area presenters will have summarized workplans with recommendations for development, improvement, and enhancement.

GOAL The goal of this program is to provide the supplemental funding recipients an update on the status of CDC's Supplemental Funding for Public Health Preparedness and Response for Bioterrorism Program. The supplemental funding recipients include: all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealths of Puerto Rico and the Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Republics of Palau and the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia; and the nation's three largest municipalities (New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles County).

OBJECTIVESAfter viewing the program, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss methods of receiving CDC's technical assistance, direct assistance, and Fall 2002 workshop trainings to improve, enhance, or expand project workplans.
  • Access contact information for CDC's Procurement and Grants Office (PGO) Grants Management staff, Project Officers, Focus Area Team Leaders, Technical Project Officers assigned to HHS regions and by Focus Area.
  • Apply updated information to effectively and efficiently achieve critical benchmarks, critical capacities, and enhanced capacities.
  • Describe by Focus Area, brief summations of overall projects' strengths and challenges, model programs, suggested strategies, practical tips, and best practices plus next steps for workplan development and implementation.
