| Course Description: | This course explores the financial management of health care provider and payer organizations including hospitals, managed care organizations, physician practices and clinics. Focus is on tools and techniques necessary to manage financial resources, report financial results, and prepare business plans. Subjects addressed through text problems, weekly case studies, interactive discussion, and independent projects include: understanding financial statements, financial projections, rate setting, managed care and risk management, Medicare and regulatory compliance, budgeting, working capital management, break-even analysis, business valuation, mergers and acquisitions, capital budgeting and project analysis. Students should have a working knowledge of accounting, Microsoft Windows 95 and Excel 97 (or more recent versions) and a financial calculator. |
