Course Description: |
At the end of this satellite conference participants should be able to:
- Identify signs and symptoms of child sexual abuse
- Discuss the medical indicators of child sexual abuse
- Understand the concept of telemedicine
- Discuss the importance of telemedicine in working with cases of child abuse in Alabama
- Identify and utilize telemedicine resources in Alabama
Recent advances in technology provide many new opportunities for medically undeserved areas, as some families no longer have to manage multiple office visits and travel to a major medical center. Alabama is piloting a telemedicine project to enable physicians in rural areas to work with the University of South Alabama to diagnose, document and treat cases of child physical and sexual abuse. This presentation will include a discussion of physical and sexual abuse among children as well as a demonstration of the telemedicine equipment used for remote medical consultations.
