"Lymphatic Filariasis: Hope for a Better Life" is a video training program developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for patients with Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) and health care workers who work with LF patients. The videotape demonstrates procedures for hygiene, skin care, elevation, exercise, acute attack management, and diet that will help LF patients control their disease.
The videotape contains two video programs:
Patients (21 minutes) which shows patients how they can improve their quality of life by following simple techniques;
and Health Care Workers (58 minutes) demonstrates simple techniques that health care workers use to improve the quality of life for their LF patients.
"Lymphatic Filariasis: Hope for a Better Life" is the winner of a 2001 Cine Gold Eagle award in recognition of excellence in film and video production.
The video program was produced by the Division of Parasitic Diseases, National Center for Infectious Diseases and the Division of Professional Development, Public Health Practice Program Office, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; the Amaury Coutinho Non-Governmental Organization, Recife, Brazil; and the Nucleo de Ensino Pesquisa e Assistencia em Filariose (NEPAF), Hospital das Clinicas, Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Recife, Brazil.
