This webcast program presents an update on infection control recommendations to address threats or actual events related to bioterrorism. Included is a summary of the current investigation and an overview of practical preparedness guidance for healthcare epidemiologists and other healthcare professionals. This program with a panel of experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was originally a live satellite and web broadcast on 11/16/01.
Objectives After the program, participants will be able to:
- Define the role of the healthcare epidemiology team in bioterrorism investigations and response.
- Describe the clinical syndromes important in heightened surveillance for identification of anthrax and smallpox.
- Understand recommendations for patient care, disinfection practices, mail handling guidance, and other infection control issues in healthcare facilities.
- Ensure the healthcare epidemiology team is prepared to respond to bioterrorism events in their communities.
